Four generations 🖤 Athena is a fourth-generatio Four generations 🖤 Athena is a fourth-generation painter with Warlu. She is the great grand-daughter of Paddy Japaljarri Sims (deceased), one of the instrumental senior men in the painting of the now famous Yuendumu school doors, as well as one of the founders of the art centre in 1985. Her mother is Geraldine Napangardi Granites and her grandmother is the late Alma Nungarrayi Granites, both well-known artists.

In 2010 Athena began painting with Warlu. She learnt her skill by watching her mother, sisters and grandmother paint. She paints Jukurrpa from her father's side (Ngapa Jukurrpa - Water Dreaming) and her mother's side (Ngalyipi Jukurrpa - Snake Vine Dreaming and Yanjirlpirri Jukurrpa - Seven Sisters Dreaming). It is her modern interpretation of her Seven Sisters Story that has caught the attention of art lovers around the world.

Inspired by her grandmother's luminous celestial skies, Athena has employed an unrestricted palette and uses an experimental approach to the resources of paint and water.
RUTH X SPOTLIGHT ❤️ // we’re excited to shar RUTH X SPOTLIGHT ❤️ // we’re excited to share Ruth Nungarrayi Spencer’s latest collab with @spotlightstores 🔥 Ruth has been painting with Warlukurlangu since she was a teenager. Her grandfather and grandmother told her the stories of her Jukurrpa (Dreaming) but it was Daisy Napanangka Nelson (1930 – 2001) who also painted with Warlukurlangu Artists, Ruth’s Number two Grandmother or Big Sister (Wendy and Alma Sims) who taught her Yanjirlpirri Jukurpa (Star Dreaming) painting. Ruth often travels and visits family in Lajamanu, Balgo, and Kalkaringi. Aside from painting, Ruth enjoys playing basketball and softball. ⚾️

LLOYD JAMPIJINPA BROWN // Lloyd is the grandson of LLOYD JAMPIJINPA BROWN // Lloyd is the grandson of Paddy Japaljarri Stewart, one of the founding artists of Warlukurlangu Artists and one of the main painters of the famous Yuendumu School Doors.

Lloyd was born in Alice Springs and has lived all of his life in Yuendumu an Aboriginal settlement located 290 kms north west of Alice Springs.

Lloyds favourite pastime is singing in one of the local bands. He also loves playing football and is a keen supporter of the Yuendumu Magpies.

He often goes out hunting for traditional animals with his family in the country surrounding Yuendumu.

He first started painting for the art centre on small canvas boards which are given to the school children as part of the art centre cultural maintenance program during the school holidays. He has been painting on canvas since 2002.

He paints the stories that have been passed down to him for millenia, these stories relate directly to Llody’s traditonal country, the animals and features which are commonly found in those places.

Lloyd also helps out at the Art Centre, assisting with the preparation of art canvasses.
