Patron

Major General Michael Jeffery AC, AO(Mil), CVO, MC (Rtd)has been patron of Warlukurlangu Artists since 2009. In September 2010 Warlukurlangu Artists hosted and organised his first visit to Yuendumu. He spent time with the artists in the art centre, visited the Men’s Museum and was taken by locals to a nearby sacred site at sunset.

During Major General Jeffery’s two-day stay he met staff and saw the work undertaken at the local Clinic, Mt Theo Program, Kurdu Kurdukurlangu Childcare Centre, Western Desert Dialysis Unit, PAW Media, and the Women’s Centre. The local school hosted a cultural night to celebrate his visit.

Correspondence following the visit highlighted some of his observations and his reflections.

“I have taken away a number of lasting memories and may I congratulate you on the energy, motivation and expertise, in not just running such a successful Art Gallery, but for the obvious interest and care that is displayed to all in the aboriginal community at Yuendumu. Many thanks for such an educative stay, linked to the genuine joy of seeing such a beautiful indigenous art gallery and for the opportunity to visit aboriginal sacred sites at the same time when the countryside looks so lovely.”
