Yarlukari Jukurrpa (Yarlukari Dreaming)

The Jukurrpa story associated with Yarlukari (to the west of Yuendumu) tells of the emus who came from the east and travelled through Yarlukari to Mikanji. They were travelling through dry land until they reached Yarlukari. Darby has painted the emus dancing around the waterholes. The other concentric circles represent the many waterholes in the area. The Jampijinpa and Jangala Emu (Yankirri) Dreaming is a men’s story and much of it is private. Darby almost took two years to complete this complex screenprint which involved 12 separate sheets of acetate. This smaller edition of 25 was the first edition and varies slightly in colour and print order to the larger edition of 80.
