Biography

Stacey Nakamarra Wilson was born in 1998 in Alice Springs Hospital, the closest hospital to Yuendumu, a remote Aboriginal community located 290 kms north-west of Alice Springs in the NT of Australia. She grew up in Yuendumu, attending the local school before going to Kormilda College, an Aboriginal boarding college in Darwin. To further her studies, she enrolled at the Batchelor Learning Centre to complete Years 11 and 12 and is now registered with Job Seek.

In 2016 Stacey began painting for Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation, an Aboriginal owned and governed art centre located in Yuendumu. She learnt to paint at school but also by watching her mother paint. Stacey paints Lukararra Jukurrpa (Bush Seed Dreaming), stories which have been passed down through the generations for millennia. She loves colour and uses an unrestricted palette to depict her traditional iconography.

She is married to a Warlpiri man from Katherine, who is teaching music in Yuendumu.
