Biography

Kerry Anne Nampijinpa Major was born in Alice Springs, the closest hospital to Kintore, a small Aboriginal community located 550km west of Alice Springs and 127km SW of Nyirripi.  She is the daughter of Shiela Nungurrayi Dixon and Riley Jangala Major.  Kerry learnt to paint from her late grandmother Kawai Nampijinpa and her grandfather Beni Tjapaljarri, both well known painters from Papunya Tula artists.  She paints her grandmothers Warna Jukurrpa (Snake dreaming).  These stories relate directly to her land, its features and the plants and animals that inhabit it, they have been passed down over thousands of years.
