Ngalyipi Jukurrpa, 2000 (Snake Vine Dreaming)
This Jukurrpa belongs to Napaljarri and Nungarrayi karnta (women). The country associated with this story is Yanjirlpiri, west of Yuendumu. Ngalyipi is Snake Vine, its scientific name is Tinospora smilacina. Traditionally it was used as a strap to carry parraja (coolamon / wooden food carrying dishes), or as a cure for headaches (it was wrapped very tightly around the head). In the print the ‘U’ shape represents a Napaljarri or Nungarrayi.
