Mt Allan workshop 2012
Mt Allan Workshop May 2012. Mt Allan is located 40 km west of Yuendumu. During the two week workshop artist were able to explore and study the traditional iconography used to represent their Jukurrpa (dreaming and stories). The artists also explore new ways of representation using different techniques, materials, colors and forms. The exploration of new forms of representation produced a beautiful range of paintings that challenge the traditional perspective on aboriginal art, although the paintings are based on their jukurrpa; the patterns, colors and the brushstrokes used produce a modern, interesting and stylish painting. Most artists based their painting on their close relationship and association to country. Stories related to; seed (ngurlu), water (ngapa), birds (jurlpun), kangaroo (marlu), goanna (wardapi), love magic (ngarlu) appear in these paintings.
