BEFORE & AFTER ❤️ // Ada Nangala Dixon was bor BEFORE & AFTER ❤️ // Ada Nangala Dixon was born in 1952 at Mt Doreen, an extensive cattle breeding station about 55km west of Yuendumu in the Northern Territory.

She was born into a well-known artist family, her father was Pintubi artist Pegleg Jampijinpa and her mother was Margaret Napangardi Brown, a successful artist with Warlukurlangu Artists.

Ada attended the local School at Yuendumu and when she finished she helped out at the Yuendumu School and then Nyirripi School. She is married and has 5 children and 7 grandchildren.

Ada began painting with Warlukurlangu in 2009.

She would watch her sister Joy Nangala Brown paint and decided she would paint too. She paints her Father’s Jukurrpa (Dreaming), especially Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming),Dreamings which have been passed down over the generations for millennia and relate directly to the land, its features and the plants and animals that inhabit it.

Ada uses an unrestricted palette to develop a modern interpretation of her traditional culture.

When Ada is not painting she goes hunting especially on the weekends, “I love it!”

KAREN NAPALJARRI BARNES 🐥 // Karen was born in KAREN NAPALJARRI BARNES 🐥 // Karen was born in Lajamanu, a remote Aboriginal community in semi-arid country on the edge of the Tanami Desert 1000km north-west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.

She moved to Yuendumu, 700km south, after finishing school in Lajamanu, to be with her family.

She has been painting with Warlukurlangu Artists since 2001.

She is the grand-daughter of Warlukurlangu’s famous artist Judy Napangardi Watson and they would sit together painting at the Art Centre every day when Karen first started painting.

Karen paints the dreaming stories handed down to her by her family for generations of millenia, stories which come from Mina Mina, country west of Yuendumu of which her family are the custodians.

She also paints Karnta Jukurrpa (Women’s Dreaming), Wakulyarri Jukurrpa (Wallaby Dreaming), Ngarlajiyi Jukurrpa (Bush Carrot Dreaming) Ngatijirri Jukurrpa (Bugerigar Dreaming).

Karen loves sport, especially basketball and softball, and is an avid football spectator, barracking for Lajamanu.
