Neville ‘Cobra’ Japangardi Poulson was born in 1951 in Yuendumu. He pass away in Nyirripi on 13-07-2013. He was a fully trained teacher and taught at Yuendumu School, Yirara College (1973), Areyonga (1978), Papunya (1979-80) and Ali Curung (1994-96). He also worked at Warlukurlangu Artists in 1989. Neville painted with Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation, an Aboriginal owned and governed art centre located in Yuendumu, since 1988. Neville was one of the Yuendumu artists selected in May 1989 to create a sand painting for the Magicien de la Terre at the Pompidou Centre in Paris. The artists created Janganpa Jukurrpa (Possum Dreaming), Witi Jukurrpa (Ceremonial Pole Dreaming), Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming) and Warnayarrajarra Jukurrpa (Snake Dreaming). In the early years of his career he didn’t have much time in his busy schedule to paint consistently, but since 2010 has been painting on a regular basis. Multi-talented Neville has also recorded Wangarla Jukurrpa for children, as part of the Animating Jukurrpa Collection with PAW Media and Communications, an Aboriginal media organization located in Yuendumu. He has also set up with e-bay the Neville Cobra Poulson Aboriginal Art Charity Auction, with proceeds providing music/art scholarships.
