STEVEN JUPURRURLA NELSON 💥 // Steven is a lifel STEVEN JUPURRURLA NELSON 💥 // Steven is a lifelong resident of Yuendumu, approximately 300 kilometres northwest of Alice Springs on the Tanami road. He was raised by his late mother, Nora Nungarrayi Jurrah, and his stepfather, Frankie Jakamarra Nelson.

Steven began painting at Warlukurlangu Artists in late 2014 after working at the art centre for some time. He typically paints 'Janganpa Jukurrpa' (Brush-Tail Possum Dreaming) from his mother's side.

His country is located near Nyirrpi, another remote Aboriginal community approximately 170 kilometres west of Yuendumu. His mother's and grandfather's country is also in this area. His mother's country includes the Nginyirrpalangu outstation. His grandfather, Banjo Patterson, owned country that includes Ngarupalya.

Steven enjoys the work and process of painting at Warlukurlangu. When he is not painting, he likes to relax at home, walk around the community with his dog Xena, and go hunting for kangaroos.
WATSON JANGALA ROBERTSON 🔥 // Watson was born i WATSON JANGALA ROBERTSON 🔥 // Watson was born in 1976 in Alice Springs Hospital.

Walter was born into a family of established Warlpiri artists—who would take him out bush, around Nyirripi and Yuendumu, showing him sites and teaching him the traditional ways of his country.

He attended the local school and for the past few years has been living in Nyirripi, a remote Aboriginal community 130 kms north-west of Yuendumu.

He began painting with Warlukurlangu Artists in 2016. He paints his Mother’s Watiya-warnu Jukurrpa (Seed Dreaming) and his grandfather’s Ngapa Jukurrpa – Puyurru (Water Dreaming), stories passed down to him through the many generations.

These stories are creation stories that relate to his family’s traditional country, traditions that stretch back for millennia. He uses an unrestricted palette to depict his traditional iconography, at the same time developing a modern individualist style, using bold designs in a variety of contexts.

Food and bush tucker are still regularly hunted and collected today, and Watson often goes out hunting with family and friends.

When hunting, they hunt for goanna, kangaroo, snake, and witchetty grubs as well as bush tucker, such as native currants, bush potato and bush banana.
GERALDINE NAPANGARDI GRANITES 🤩 // Geraldine wa GERALDINE NAPANGARDI GRANITES 🤩 // Geraldine was born and has lived in Yuendumu all her life.

She is the daughter of Alma Nungarrayi Granites, a strong participant of Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation and granddaughter of Paddy Japaljarri Sims (dec) and Bessie Nakamarra Sims (Dec): two of Warlukurlangu Artists founding artists.

She attended the local school and has two sisters and one brother who also paint with Warlukurlangu Artists.

She also has four children, 2 sons and 2 daughters.

Geraldine is a shy person who is very involved with her large extended family and enjoys being around children and helping the family’s grandchildren.

She learned by observing her grandfather’s art works as well as Judy Napangardi Watson’s work (a Warlpiri artist who is at the forefront of a move towards more abstract rendering of Jukurrpa /Dreaming stories).

Geraldine is working hard to develop a modern interpretation of the traditional culture.

She started painting at the Centre in 2001 and paints the Mina Mina Dreaming story which is an important woman’s story. ❤️
